Award ceremony

The Polish Association of Telecommunications Engineers (SIT) is the organizer and the founder of the nationwide competition for the best diploma thesis in the field of telecommunications. The subject of the competition is the selection of the best engineering thesis every year. The purpose of the Competition is:

  1. promoting diploma thesis topics related to the broadly defined field of telecommunications,
  2. creating an additional moral and material incentive for students to take up ambitious subjects of diploma thesis, with a high level of science and technology,
  3. making it easier for university graduates to start a professional career on the telecommunications market,
  4. promoting SIT and FITCE activities among student youth.

IMPROVING ULTRA-WIDEBAND POSITIONING SYSTEM ACCURACY THROUGH COOPERATIVE LOCALIZATION

The objective of this study was to develop a cooperative positioning algorithm and to implement it in an ultra-wideband localization system. The proposed algorithm uses TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) measurement results obtained by system infrastructure and results of ranging performed by system tags. The results are fused using Extended Kalman Filter. The developed algorithm has been thoroughly tested. The results of simulations and experiments have shown that the proposed algorithm allows to locate tags with greater accuracy and precision in both line of sight and non-line of sight conditions.

MEASUREMENT STAND FOR RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION INVESTIGATIONS

Field-strength measurements are vital element of modern telecommunications, because  of increasing significance of wireless radio links. Therefore describing the characteristics of a radio link and its transmission loss is so important. This parameter is crucial in engineering new radio communication systems. In order to determine radio link parameters properly it is needed to follow the recommendations presented by ITU-R. The purpose of this Engineering Thesis is to take under consideration ITU-R recommendations treating of field - strength measurements, and transmission loss and then follow them to engineer, build, and develop software for measurement stand for radio wave propagation investigations. The thesis contains the methodology of field-strength measurements description, measurement stand project and some research showing the way the stand works.
